Three days trip to Korce and Mavrovo winter tour!
Albania is a great destination for winter tourism. Although it is best known for its warm Mediterranean summers and amazing beaches, there are plenty of things to do in Albania in winter. Korca, a city in southeastern Albania, known for its rich history and cultural heritage is the best destination for winter tourism. It is definitely the best place in Albania during the Christmas, with a very warm and festive atmosphere. Dardhe is a village of Korca, number 1 place in Albania for winter tourism, with its skiing resorts.
Macedonia as well offers a lot of travel opportunities during the winter. Ohrid is a picturesque lakeside town located in the southwestern part of Macedonia. It is also a very nice destination for winter tourism. During winter, Ohrid becomes a quiet and idyllic town that has enchanted visitors since the Byzantine Empire. The pale light of the sun reflects on deserted cobbled streets, and this glowing fog melts in time with the footfalls of the few people wandering around. Another “must visit” in Macedonia during winter is Mavrovo National Park, located around 100 km away from Ohrid, with very beautiful resorts and possibility for winter sports.
Beside of being great and very beautiful destinations to visit during the winter, another strong reason to take a trip to these countries is that off-season prices make both Albania and Macedonia even more travel wallet-friendly in December, January, and February.

We start in the morning our drive from Tirana to visit Korca. Korca is a magical city with a lot of important landmarks. It is worth mentioning that Korca was once a republic and had its own rules. Moreover, there you will visit the beautiful Cathedral of Korca and the museum of Gjon Mili. Gjon Mili was an important photographer that focuses on his life and his art. This museum is very fascinating, as this place was his first home and now it’s a place that represents his art. Furthermore, in Korca you will visit the old bazaar which is an Ottoman-style bazaar and offers handmade handicrafts.
You can’t visit Korca without checking out the Old Bazaar. Buildings constructed in the classic Korca style characterize the Bazaar.
The Bazaar, separated by narrow cobbled streets, never fails to attract the attention of visitors. In the past centuries, the bazaar has functioned as a market for trade not just within Albania, but also internationally with Turkey, Greece, Trieste, and Venice.
After the visit we drive to Dardha. Dardha lies 20 km from Korca at an altitude of over 1,300m above sea level. Founded centuries ago, by families fleeing the occupation of central Albania, this remote mountain village is nestled between the Morava and Gramoz Mountains. The well-preserved stone homes highlight a proud village that has been left largely untouched over time. The green fields, fresh summer days and cold snowy winters make Dardha a popular tourist destination throughout the year for its unparalleled natural, architectural and culinary traditions.
Check in the hotel in Korca.
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Pogradec. The next stop is Drilon, the National Park that is a place of peace where Lake Ohrid has created a small lake where you can take a small ride around the park. The place is decorated with willow trees and is home to some bird species. You are going to love this place and you are going to relax. After Drilon, you are going to stop in Pogradec the town where the Lake Ohrid of the Albanian side nestles. The last stop on this fascinating day trip is the village of Drilon. Set on the shore of Lake Ohrid, overlooking the city of Ohrid, Drilon is an old village, with cobblestone streets and old houses.
After the visit we drive to Ohrid. We start our visit from the fortress of Samuel, to the Academy complex Plaoshnik, church of Saint Sofia, the church of St. John the Baptist. Then we drive in Galichica National Park to arrive in St. Naum Monastery, situated in a perfect picture spot over Lake Ohrid UNESCO. This journey will take you to a monastic complex, known for its history of orthodox religion, some of the painting achievements and woodcarving, displayed within the church of St. Naum, a priest and scholar with a famous legacy. Tucked away in a middle of a natural rich wonder of water spring, this site is a must for any traveler.
After the visit we drive for overnight in Mavrovo (North Macedonia).
Mavrovo is Macedonia’s oldest national park. It’s an exceptional beauty, a small village around a large lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains. There are around 10,000 meters of ski lifts and chair lifts, enough to entertain a beginner for a week, an average skier for three days or an advanced skier for a weekend.
